Introduction

Did you know?

DVTK Arena’s court is covered with a total of 3,600 m2 of continuous sports parquet.

The quality of the parquet covering the court is the same as that used by the teams in the NBA.

In addition to the basketball center court, four more basketball courts, two basketball half courts and five volleyball courts were built in the Arena.

In addition to the 3,396-person grandstand, the hall also has eight Skyboxes and an exclusive VIP grandstand.

In our arena, two buffets and a VIP service room are available to our guests.

Our hall is not only the home of the basketball team; among others, members of the volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, athletics, kayak-canoe and bicycle departments train here.

Above the center court there is a LEDcube consisting of four elements, each element 5×4 meters in size, with FULL HD resolution, which is suitable not only for displaying the results of the matches, but also for displaying live, still and camera images.

Thoughts about our Arena

Tamas Szabo

The fact that a gym is needed in Diósgyőr, was already mentioned in 1920’s therefore this is an idea which has been for 100 years, indeed I would say this is a dream. Thanks to the expansion of support opportunities the construction of the gym was suggested in 2010, but we really started to contemplate this opportunity in 2014. At this time the first agreements were discussed, as well as the sketches were made. From this point of view, this is an eight-year process, many people – including me – have 8 years of work involved in the completion of this gym.

“I hope that the Arena will be exactly the same in the future as it is today: it will be full of smiling children every afternoon, and happy, enthusiastic fans on weekends.”

We cannot forget that this gym is home not only for the basketball department. The rhythmic gymanstics department also trains on these courts, the weight room is almost used by all the departments of DVTK: athletics, kayaking, cycling, to name just a few. We also host the table tennis section. Due to the gym’s quality public-serving, I am concerned that not only the basketball department’s games, and selected games will take place here in the future. Let me turn to the basketball department: the adult team and the junior teams can train in a more professional work-frame, and it is a huge improvement that several teams can train in parallel.

Peter Volgyi

I think it is also unique in Europe that everything players need for their professional work is available in one place and at such a high standard. The Arena allowed us to train at any time, so we were able to put together the most suitable training plan. It is a big advantage that it became possible to enroll individual trainings for the players that there was no place to do until now, and the palette of these trainings has also expanded a lot.”

The fact that we are the first residents of this wonderful facility is exciting in itself, but that we were able to celebrate this right away with a trophy that was not obtained under any circumstances.

“When I entered the Arena for the first time, I was a professional manager, now I can cross this threshold as a professional manager and cup-winner head coach. No matter where life will take me , it will always be connected to the Arena.”

We have already experienced so many memorable moments during the short existence of the gym, I would highlight two from them: firstly when Cheridene shot the floater next to Betti Hatar, and we had the opportunity to save the cup final for extra time with a free throw. The second is when I entered the dressing room after the victory and saw the genuine joy, liberation and happiness on the faces of the girls. That moment made up for all of us for everything that happened during the season.”

Istvan Szabo

“The Generali Arena gave a lot of experience for the basketball fans, but due to various legislative changes, it is no longer possible to organize games at the level we would have liked. In the new gym, rooms for the rehabilitation and recreation of the players were created, as well as a new office for the coaching staff, for which we did not have the opportunity or space in the previous years. The DVTK Aréna functions excellently as the home of both prominent international and NB I/A group basketball games.”

“There were very few corners of the previous hall that I did not know. I hope that the DVTK Arena will also be like this, although when I first entered here, my first thought was that:

“Oh my Jesus, this place is enormous!”

“It’s a huge difference that I’ve been in the Arena since the opening, which is an emotional surplus of course. Anyone who knows that women’s basketball is by far the favorite sport in my life, so a gym designed for basketball is a great feeling.”

Gergely Magyar

“It’s hard to list how many extras we got from the Arena. It was able to give a lot to the youth from a social and professional point of view: the children are in the same environment, which creates a better relationship between them. And the high professional standard helps them to develop as much as possible during their junior years. But the Arena also contributes significantly to the work of the coaching staff: we can work in one place, which helps us to exchange ideas and thoughts with each other. I would like to emphasize one more thing: thanks to the several courts, those who play in two age groups at the same time can participate in all training sessions and matches, which is a very big relief.”

“This is a really unique gym in an international context too: anyone who enters into this building, will be amazed that this facility represents such an amazing standard.”

“I’ve been a coach for 15 years, and before that I have never had my own table, there was no space for it, there was no opportunity for it. Now I have my own office, which I think clearly illustrates how big the change is. We have been waiting for a long time to have our own home, and we really managed to create this with the Arena, it is very uplifting.”

“So it is very difficult to express what this Arena means to me, to us, it is a completely special feeling. Even in a short time, many pleasant experiences are connected to the Arena. In Hungarian women’s youth basketball, regardless of age group, it is a great achievement to beat Csata, our U18 team did it at home this year, it meant a lot to the girls. The last minute and a half of the final of the Hungarian Cup and the extra time, that the victory was born in this gym in this atmosphere, in my opinion, this is inimitable.”

Monika “Kicsi” Bukovszki

“The new gym gave the youth something which we haven’t had before: a permanent home.”

“Until now, our youth teams have trained in the schools of the city, and played games in the Generali Arena. They did not feel that they really belonged to any place. This has now changed, the Arena really functions as a real home for the youth. Training and home games are in the same facility, they use the same dressing rooms, this was not the case before and this helps them a lot. It is also useful for us, as professional managers, to be in the same space with the coaches, to be able to exchange our ideas and experiences and to better help each other’s work.”

“We often talk about the more obvious and spectacular professional changes, but as a former player I know that even the smallest details matter a lot. For example, a small kitchen section was created in the dressing room, where members of the adult team can eat together and talk to each other. Everything was given here to make the girls feel good, and it was an important part of this successful year.”

Angelika Kiss

We were excited about what kind of feeling will be the plalying in the Arena for the first time, but I say this in a positive way. We were really looking forward to playing under such circumstances, in front of so many people, and I think it’s a great honor to be a part of it.

“We wanted to give something to the many enthusiastic people who came out to the opening game and supported us, we were very happy to do that by playing a good game and winning.”

It’s also an amazing experience when you look at the girls you’ve been playing basketball with for ten years and say yes, here we are, playing in the cup final against Sopron, and we’re standing head to head. And then we saw the fans coming in, you get goosebumps, really. . In these moments, you feel that all the training was worth it.

The entire facility has equipment that only the most professional clubs have. Of course, this helps a lot to properly prepare for games. It is also a big positive that everything is available in one place for us players, which makes it much easier to regenerate in the middle of the Wednesday-Saturday drive. Also, there are a lot of little things, my personal favorite is the music and lights at the beginning of the games, at the start of the game; it’s a very special atmosphere when you feel the audience getting excited.
